About Daimler
DaimlerChrysler, now operating under the name Daimler AG, is a German multinational corporation with a focus on the automotive industry, and they serve as one of the world’s largest car and truck producers. Daimler was first established in 1926 through an Agreement of Mutual Interest that was signed by Benz & Cie. and Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft, and while both companies initially continued to manufacture products apart from one another, they formally merged together in 1926 to form Daimler-Benz AG. Once together, the new company decided to market all of their automobiles under the brand name “Mercedes-Benz”. During World War II, the company diversified their operations for the war effort, producing aircraft, tanks, and submarines for Germany.
Years later, in 1998, Daimler-Benz and United States automobile manufacturer Chrysler Corporation entered a “Merger of Equals”, forming DaimlerChrysler AG. With their merger, Daimler was also able to create new businesses in order to provide various services such as data processing, insurance, and financial services. Over the next 9 years, DaimlerChrysler AG would undergo various restructuring operations, acquiring and selling various subsidiaries. In 2007, Daimler sold Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management, and they rebranded themselves as Daimler AG. Leading into the present, Daimler has focused on acquiring more businesses to expand their capabilities, and they have recently focused on the development of electric vehicles with a desire to stop the production of internal combustion engines.
